She reads
a room before
she paints it.

Bettina Nuschei develops artistic systems that give identity and atmospheric depth to architecture — for architects, hospitality, and corporate collections working on spaces that need to mean something.

Working method

Not decoration.
Orientation.

First, she observes

Reading the room

Before colour, form or material — she reads the architecture. Light, proportion, sightlines, and the people who will move through the space. Only then does a work begin.

In dialogue

Space, light, purpose

Nothing is placed; everything is conceived in place. Each piece becomes part of the architecture — not an object added to it.

A language

Between sign and matter

Four decades of developing a singular vocabulary between sign, light and surface — the thread that runs through every body of work since.

Made to last

Tailored to each place

From private residences to hotels and corporate headquarters — works are scaled to the architecture and built to hold their presence for decades.

Foundation

Before the architecture, a formation few artists share.

New York, 1980/81

Trained at Andy Warhol’s Factory

Bettina Nuschei worked at Andy Warhol’s New York studio, where the two formed a close personal connection — a rare, documented link to one of the last century’s defining artists.

Paris, 1981–1987

Shown at the Grand Palais

Her early exhibitions in Paris placed her among an artist circle that included Arman, Zoran Music and Jean Hélion.

Mallorca, 1998–2010

Art in architecture

Realised room concepts and architectural collaborations with Danilo Silvestrin, among them „Cielo de Bonaire“ — the beginning of her ongoing work between art and space.

2021–2025

Corporate collections

Recent commissions include Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and Lloyds Bank, alongside private clinics, law offices and real estate groups across Munich and Zurich.

Beyond language

A second signature.

Alongside her work with sign and script, an abstract, painterly language has run through her practice since Paris — colour, gesture and field, developed quietly, in parallel. The same hand, a different register.

Selected spaces

Where the work lives

Luxury hospitality, private residences, corporate headquarters and cultural spaces across Europe.

Working on a space that needs one language throughout? Let’s talk about it →

Bettina Nuschei
The person

She rarely speaks about herself.

Despite decades of international work, Bettina speaks about the room, about the people who use it, and about what can happen when both come together — not about herself.

She describes it as spatial thinking: art that opens rooms, sometimes literally, sometimes only in perception. A space can grow larger without a single stone being moved.

Wirkung

„Wenn meine Bilder hängen,
hat der Raum eine Seele
und atmet.“

When my paintings are hung, the room finds a soul — and begins to breathe.
